Kitchen Extension, Hook ,Hampshire

A family kitchen extension designed for teenage life

This project began with a familiar problem. The existing kitchen was too small for a busy family home, especially with growing teenagers, school work, sports kit, muddy boots and everyday family life all competing for space.

The family wanted more room together, but not just another formal living space. They needed a kitchen, dining and family room that could become the centre of the home. Somewhere the teenagers could spend time without disappearing to their bedrooms, somewhere homework could happen, friends could gather and the family could still feel connected.

An unused conservatory at the back of the house was removed and replaced with a generous new extension, creating a large kitchen, dining and family room overlooking the garden. The new space is open, bright and practical, with room for cooking, eating, relaxing and the everyday buzz of family life.

The original kitchen was then repurposed as a laundry and boot room, giving the house a hardworking support space for rugby kit, muddy shoes, bags, coats and a warm place for the dog.

Large windows on two sides bring natural light deep into the new room and open the house up to the garden. A new terrace extends the living space outside, creating a strong connection between the kitchen, garden and outdoor dining area.

The result is a family home that works harder, feels larger and gives everyone more space to be together.
